From August 26 to August 31, the first "Xi'an Jiaotong University - Politecnico di Milano International Industry-Education Integration Summer School" was successfully held at the Academy of Frontier Equipment (IAFE), Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbor（iHarbour）. Co-hosted by the School of Mechanical Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University and the Mechanical and Materials Departments of Politecnico di Milano, this Summer School marks a significant milestone in the international collaboration between the two universities.

The Summer School aimed to leverage the academic strengths of both institutions, promote the integration of industry and education, and shape a new ecosystem for high-quality development in higher education. It attracted 26 students and faculty members from Politecnico di Milano, specializing in mechanical engineering and materials science. Over the course of the15 days, participants were treated to an exciting combination of academic discussions and cultural exchanges.

During the Summer Sschool, Prof.Cui Jianlei, Vice Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering,warmly welcomed the Italian delegationsand introduced the mechanical disipline, highlighting its unique characteristics and strengths. He expressed hope that both sides would continue to leverage their academic advantages to deepen cooperation and exchange in relevant fields, strengthen the cultivation of international talent.

Through out the visit, Professors Lou Yanshan, Li Bo, Associate Professors Li Xiang, and Zhang Hui from XJTU delivered inspiring academic presentations, sharing the latest insights and achievements in their respective research fields.Students actively engaged in discussions, expanding their academic horizons through lively interactions with the professors.

In addition to academic exchanges, the Summer School offered a variety of hands-on activities. Participants visited the advanced laboratories and enterprise cooperation bases at IAFE, as well as industrial sites including the Xi'an manufacturing base of Geely Auto and Western Baode Technology Co., Ltd. These experiences provided the Italian delegation with first -hand exposure to China's rapid progress in innovation, industry-education integration, and green manufacturing.

During the Summer School, Professor Donatella Sciuto, President of Politecnico di Milano, accompanied by Professor Shan Zhiwei,Vice President of Xi’an Jiaotong University,and Professor Liu Wenfeng, Head of Department of International Collaboration and Exchanges, held discussions with Dr.Zhang Junbin, Party Secretaryof School of Mechanical Engineering, Prof.Wang Yongquan,Vice Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering, and Prof.Cui Jianlei.

The two sides exchanged views on Sino-foreign cooperative education and dual doctoral degree programs. They also extended a cordial invitation to the Italian delegation to attend the “Belt and Road International Conference of Deans/Heads of Mechanical Engineering& Leadership Forum onEngineering Technology”, to be held in November. At the conclusion of the discussions,Dr.Zhang Junbin, on behalf of School of Mechanical Engineering, presented gifts to President Sciuto and posed for a group photo to commemorate the event.

The successful hosting of the "Xi'an Jiaotong University - Politecnico di Milano International Industry-Education Integration Summer School" not only provided a platform for faculty and students from both universities to learn and exchange ideas but also made a positive contribution to advancing international industry-education integration. In the future, with joint efforts, the international cooperation and exchanges in key disciplines between the two universities will continue to deepen, exploring new models and approaches for international industry-education integration, and working together to cultivate high-quality talent with a global perspective and innovative capabilities.
