On December 30, 2025, the inaugural International Student Scholarship Award Ceremony and New Year Gala of the School of Mechanical Engineering was grandly held in the Qian Xuesen Lecture Hall of the High-end Equipment Research Institute. Centered around recognizing excellence and celebrating the New Year together, the event gathered international students, college leadership, and distinguished guests. In an atmosphere blending academia and culture, a new chapter was written for Sino-foreign educational exchange and collaborative growth among youth. The event was hosted by Li Ruiping, the Director of International Student Affairs at the School.

During the opening address session, Lei Yaguo, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, delivered the first speech. He acknowledged the courage and perseverance of international students who traveled across mountains and seas to pursue advanced studies in China and praised their hard work on their academic journeys. He expressed his hopes to all international students, encouraging them to enhance themselves and appreciate the charm of the discipline while delving into mechanical engineering expertise. He also urged them to serve as bridges, contributing their youthful energy to promoting friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between China and other countries.

In his address, Wen Guangrui, Dean of the School of International Education, began by extending warm congratulations to the outstanding international students receiving awards. He fully affirmed the remarkable achievements in the School's international student recruitment for 2025 and mentioned the encouraging situation of the flourishing development of international education across the university. Looking ahead to 2026, he emphasized that the two schools would continue to deepen collaboration, jointly advancing international education and global talent cultivation to new heights, while also extending New Year greetings to the School and all its teachers and students.

The scholarship award ceremony was the core segment of the event. In 2025, the School established the Xi'an Jiaotong University School of Mechanical Engineering International Student Scholarship for the first time. Its aim is to recognize international students who are diligent, achieve excellent academic results, demonstrate outstanding research capabilities, and possess good moral character, thereby motivating the broader international student body to strive for excellence, supporting their comprehensive development, and nurturing international exchange envoys who are friendly towards China.

During the award presentation, Lei Yaguo and Wen Guangrui presented honorary certificates and trophies to the outstanding international doctoral student awardees. Zhang Min, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Mechanical Engineering, and Zhang Jun, Vice Dean of the School, presented awards to the outstanding international master's student awardees. Under the flashlights, the award-winning students, dressed in formal attire, took the stage in turn, their faces beaming with confidence and pride. What they received from the leaders was not merely an honor, but also high recognition from the university and the School for their academic achievements and cross-cultural adaptability.

Subsequently, master's student Sorravit Waelveerakup and doctoral student Kashif Abbas took the stage as awardee representatives to deliver speeches. In their remarks, they sincerely thanked the university and the School for providing an excellent platform, expressed gratitude for their supervisors' careful guidance and earnest teachings, and stated that they would carry this encouragement forward to continue delving deeper on their academic paths.

Following the award ceremony, the New Year Gala commenced wonderfully. Hosted by the School's international doctoral student Inno, the gala kicked off with the melodious and graceful performance of traditional Chinese instruments by the Bumian Folk Band. This was followed by programs such as a performance on the traditional Bashkir instrument from Russia and a traditional Pakistani song. As Chinese and foreign characteristic performances alternated, fun interactive games were interspersed, continuously heating up the atmosphere. Students experienced the charm of multiculturalism in a joyful ambiance, sharing friendship and welcoming the New Year together, fully showcasing the warmth and vitality of this cross-cultural exchange feast.

The successful conclusion of the School of Mechanical Engineering's inaugural International Student Scholarship Award Ceremony and New Year Gala served not only as a collective recognition and full affirmation of the academic dedication of international students but also as an excellent platform for Sino-foreign cultural exchange.
